Your Questions, Answered

  • Call or email Blue River Counseling and leave your name, birthdate, phone number and email.  Dr. Wooley  and her staff will contact you with 24-72 business hours for a brief consultation.  Following that consultation you will be given information to set up an account on the therapy portal and fill out the initial information.   After completion of these tasks, an initial appointment will be set.   This allows your clinician to have more information regarding you and your goals for treatment. 

  • Blue River Counseling recognizes the importance of privacy and confidentiality in the counseling process.  Blue River Counseling follows specific confidentiality protocols to protect your privacy and personal medical records.  Blue River Counseling follows all professional, federal and state mandates to protocols to protect your medical information.  If you feel that there is a conflict of interest with one of our staff, please contact the Director, so that she can ensure that this conflict of interest is rectified and specific boundaries have been set in place.

  • The frequency of therapy sessions is determined by the current concerns and needs of the client.  Typically, Counselors prefer to schedule weekly appointments for about 4-8 weeks.  This allows time to build a strong treatment relationship and start working on  initial goals.  Once appropriate, sessions may gradually decrease in frequency over time (e.g., alternate weeks, monthly, etc.) as clients show consistent progress towards goals.  The  counselors at Blue River will work with each individual or family to create an intensity of services which meets their individual needs. 

  • The staff at Blue River recognize the importance of communication with the school regarding medical/mental health appointments.  The counselors at Blue River will provide a school note for each session in which the client attended.

  • Sessions typically run about 55 minutes, however there is some flexibility in the time that sessions can run as some children do not have the capacity for a full session.  Clinicians have the capacity to bill for 30 or 45 minute sessions depending on the needs of the child and the situation.  Counselors at Blue River Counseling attempt to set the frequency and time of the session based on the individual and family need.

  • Blue River Counseling recognizes that schedules can change unexpectedly, however when these unexpected events happen it is of the utmost importance to contact Blue River Counseling in a timely manner as possible.  Clients or the parents of the client need to cancel the appointment within 24 hours/one business day prior to the scheduled appointment.  If they fail to cancel within that time frame, fail to show for that appointment or come more than 20 minutes late the card they have on file will be billed a cancellation fee of $100.  It is also important that if you are going to be more than 15 minutes late that you contact the office so they can inform your provider.

  • Blue River Counseling values the importance of safety.  Blue River Counseling monitors the roads and if the County is under a Red alert/No Drive classification the office will be closed.  The counselors will seek to set up telehealth appointments for those that it is appropriate.  It also may be a beneficial time for a caregiver session for a young child who is not appropriate for telehealth services.  If no alternative provisions of service are possible no cancellation fee will be incurred.

  • Blue River works hard to assist  individuals connect with a clinician that is the right fit for them, however it periodically happens that a person does not feel like this is the right person for them.  First the client should try to talk with their counselor regarding not feeling a connection.  If that counselor is not able to adjust to the need of the client, they can contact the director or another clinician to request a change.
